Cannot Install/Uninstall Certain Programs

I find myself suddenly unable to uninstall certain programs, even ones that
are listed in the Add/Remove Programs menu. There is one game in particular
that is not functioning properly, but when I try to remove it, it loads the
install shield and the progress bar, then hesitates for a few seconds, then
shows a message box stating that the requested maintenance has been
performed. No matter what I try, I cannot get these items to re-install
either.

Please post the name of the programs your trying to remove

Perhaps a case for http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 ?
