printers in TS Sessions

Good morning!

Okay - Vera N, Patrick R, Jeff P, Lan W - do not jump on me for
this....this is not something that I set up...I am simply trying to clean up
a mess!

We have a client in a WIN2003 AD environment with one TS (running on WIN2003
SP2 Enterprise w/12GB RAM) and - for whatever reason - the security group
"Domain Users" was added to the local Administrators group on the TS box.
At the moment I can not remove this (I know! I know! I know!).

Anyway - question is about printing. All of the users naturally see all of
the printers.


Question Number 1 - is there a limit as to how many printers can actually
show up?


I ask because for all of the users in one of the "remote" offices none of
the "local" printers show up when they look in Printers and Faxes. They did
until yesterday around 3PM. Naturally, I have asked what - if anything -
changed and the answer to that question was "nothing".

Yes, I have looked at the RDP client. It is the latest and greatest. Yes,
printer redirection check box is checked. I have unchecked it and logged
on and then logged off and then checked it with no love (did not think that
it would do anything, but it was worth three minutes, right?).

I have not looked on the Terminal Server in the Event Logs just yet (going
to that right after finishing this post).

Spooler service on TS box and on the local computers (WINXP Pro SP3).
Printers do work locally. I tested these. Canon and Ricoh Printers. I
have not worked in this environment so I do not know any history, but like I
said - they said everything worked until about 3PM yesterday. I have
remoted into one or two of the machines in that office and the printers do
indeed work locally but do not show up in the TS Session.

Maybe someone simply disabled printer redirection on the server?
The EventLog should give you more information (no events at all -->
printer redirection is not even attempted).
I'd also restart the spooler service on the TS.

Vera,

Thanks - actually looking at that myself. Looking at local policy as well
as GPO as well RDP.....will advise. And, thought about doing the Spooler
restart last night but did not....

If I find nothing in the way of settings then I will do this.

Vera,

Kinda what I thought....a ton of 1111 entries in the System Logs. Guess
what? The printers at the PA office show up (yeppers!). And since before
yesterday at 3PM!

Anyway, did the Fallback Printer Driver and will see how this works! It has
worked very well for me in several other environments.
