Afternoon Gents,

I'm runnning XP MCE on my main computer and i use the Media Centre alot to
record a daily program. Now I would like the computer to be in hibernation,
awake when the programme needs to be recorded, record the programme and then
switch itself off when the recording is finished. is there a setting in the
background or a programme i can install that will turn the computer off/put
it back into the hibernated state?

I do 8 hours days at work and it's wasting alot of electricity when it's not
recording the programme.

cheers

Andy

You can use the Task Scheduler (via the Control Panel) to invoke
shutdown.exe at a predetermined time.

Re: xp timer

The best:

Shutdown Monster (Freeware)
http://www.mosolyorszag.hu/david/shutd/index.html

Shutdown Monster is a powerful, yet easy to use shutdown
utility. It helps you automatize how your PC works.

"/
Downloading in the night, but don't want your daddy to see
it? With Shutdown Monster you can make your computer shut
down before dad wakes up.
Copying a CD or printing all night long? No problem! Just
make sure you set up everything correctly, and your PC will
shut down, which leads to less power consumption!
Rendering 3D stuff in the night? OK! With all-new CPU-usage
based shutdown, you can make your PC wait to finish working
before shutting down.
Do you use your PC for listening to music before falling
asleep? Perfect! Shutdown Monster can make the volume level
slowly fade down, ensuring you'll have sweet dreams!

Re: xp timer

See my reply to this same question in the Media Center group. If you must
post to more than one group please cross post, do not multi post, see the
link in my sig for more info.

Neither of the suggestions posted are what you want to do for Media Center
use.

The task scheduler may do this, but note that by default, for security
reasons, tasks run on a local account will not run if the account has no
password. You can defeat this, but it's better to just add a password.

You can also significantly reduce the amount of power drawn by simply
switching the monitor OFF. Even in standby, monitors draw a fair amount of
power, and CRT monitors draw much more than LCDs.

Sitting idle, drives should spin down and power draw from the main unit
itself shouldn't be very high. If you run antivirus scans or defragmenters
that spin the disks, draw will increase.
