Hi there,
Is there a possible slowdown of an XP Pro machine by adding shortcuts
to folders and adding shares of recently opened documents to My
Network Places? If yes, then it is applicable for shortcuts to folders/
shares for both LAN reachable servers [100 Mbps] or only WAN servers
through speeds less then 10 Mbps?
Should I set up mapped drives instead? Thank you, T

Re: XP shortcuts to folders and shares to My Network Places

Hi,

When connecting through 10Mbps connections you always have slower file
access.
When using uncached shares through 10 Mbps connections, access get even
worse as Windows
also collect data about connected drives. It is better to enables caching or
Offline Files.

When accessing remote files on a servers that shut down drives to save power
(rare),
you will have to wait for disk spin up (+5 ... 10 sec.).
