I just installed a new modem yesterday. A USR V-Everything. The
modem works great, but I just right clicked on the dialer button and
left clicked on Disconnect. It will not disconnect. I've tried 6
times, and there were no open browsers, or other internet software.
WTF?????

Has anyone ever had this problem? How 2 fix?

1. What type of modem?
2. Is this "new" modem supplied with Win98 drivers?
3. How does this modem respond to the AT disconnect command?

See above. US Robotics V-Everything external

It found the drivers it needed on the windows98 cd. This is an older
modem which was once very popular.

Which is what? AT??????

It's been working and disconnecting since. Something was screwy. but
just that one time.

A pause, the interrupt character three times, and a pause again - all of
these can be configured, but the default is "+++" with a second before
and after (to ensure they're not just part of communication), will
return it to "command mode", where it will accept the AT commands; I
think ATH (for hangup) is the relevant one that actually makes it "hang
up the receiver". (Needs a return.)
