The computer had the "standby" option in power options. Had to
format/reinstall XP and now
that option is missing.
How do I make it appear ?
Thanks Frank

Install the latest drivers for your display adapter. You can download them from
the manufacturer's web site. You should also check Device Manager to see if any
of the items listed has a yellow exclamation point. Look for drivers for those
devices as well.

If you're not sure how to proceed, post back with information about your
computer including the make and model #.

Good luck

Re: Standby option missing

Hi
I will check the Device Manager.
Now I don't understand why a display adaptor driver would have
anything to do with a missing power option ?????

This is a generic computer built by a local computer shop so if a driver is
needed
not sure how to find it. I will cross that bridge if I get there.
Thanks Frank

Re: Standby option missing

Did the local shop give you any CDs when you purchased this computer? If they
did, you may find one of the CDs has the driver for your display adapter.

If you didn't receive any CDs, it's time to move on to identifying your display
adapter. Your computer either has an on-board display adapter (monitor connects
directly to the motherboard) or an add-on video card. If you have an on-board
adapter, you need to determine the manufacturer, make, and model # of your
motherboard. That can be done with a program such as Belarc Advisor.

Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit (Version 7.2x)
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Once you've identified your motherboard you should be able to download drivers
from the manufacturer's support site.

If your computer has an add-on video card you may need to open the case to
determine the manufacturer and model #. I'm not sure whether Belarc Advisor will
provide information for a device that doesn't have the correct drivers
installed.

Post back if you need clarification on any of this information.

I understand what your saying but I need to ask again.

Re: Standby option missing

The generic video driver doesn't support "power management".

Re: Standby option missing

Nepatsfan
Very useful info. I found a CD with drivers on it. I'm going to look at
another computer
that has the standby option and see what driver is on it.
Thanks Frank

You're welcome, it's a good one to know if you find it broken and the
the video was "updated" with the wrong drivers about that time.
