Hi.

I'm not sure if this is the correct group to ask this question. If not
could someone direct me to the best discussion group.

Newbie

I have XP professional clients with windows 2003 server. Internet comes
from modem to router. Clients and Server connect to router.

How do I share out a hard drive on server? How do I share out a hard drive
on client machine? What is the easiest way without mapping? And then how do
I share out a file within the hard drive?

Thanks in advance.

Your question implies that you have little or no experience with servers and
with Windows itself at a nuts-and-bolts level. This is dangerous position
you're in, equivalent to you driving a big truck even though you've never
driven anything other than an ordinary car. Here are a few of the traps
you're likely to step into:
- Loss of user data
- Unauthorised access of user data
- Becoming the victim of hackers
And, of course, you'll spend much, much more of your time carrying out basic
tasks because you lack the training to do them properly and efficiently.
Having no experience is nothing to be ashamed of - we all started without
experience. However, before getting involved in server maintenance, you must
ask your boss to send you to a couple of server training courses so that you
can pick up the basics. If you don't do it then you are likely to pay a high
price later on. Your career might be permanently damaged because you'll be
blamed for something that you did or failed to do out of sheer ignorance.

sharing harddrive and folders

sharing harddrive and folders

since you are connected to internet directly its not good to share hard drives in servers. If you want to share folders in client machines then you can go for Dfs in server.
