Aero - cannot get it run

Has anyone ever tried to get Aero run from a TS-client? I do not speak
about "theory" - I mean: did you see it yourself?

From my point of view it should be possible to view
Aero-style-seamless-windows (or remoteapps) if you fullfill the
following requirements:

- Desktop Experience + Themes-service + Vista-Style at the Terminal Server

- Allow 32-bit color depth in the TS-Settings at the server

- Have aero enabled at the client and choose "Desktop composition" and
"Font smooting".

I tried it several times and never succeeded. I have an aero-capaple
(and of course enabled) WS 2008-Client, I see Vista-style-windows but no
transparency.

Did you get it run?

According to your description, I understand that:

You have a concern about the Aero feature when connecting a Terminal server.

If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, Windows Server 2008 has no support for Windows Aero
theme over TS.

The new desktop composition feature fundamentally changes the way
applications display pixels on the screen in Windows Vista and Windows
Server 2008. When desktop composition is enabled, individual windows no
longer draw directly to the screen or primary display device as they did in
previous versions of Microsoft Windows. Instead, their drawing is
redirected to off-screen surfaces in video memory, which are then rendered
into a desktop image and presented on the display.

Desktop composition is performed by the Desktop Window Manager (DWM).
Through desktop composition, DWM enables visual effects on the desktop as
well as various features, such as glass window frames, Aero.

However, as the Desktop Window Manager (DWM) is turned off when a TS
connection is started in Windows Server 2008 Aero is not supported through
Terminal Service.

The desktop composition over RDP has been disabled since the RC0 build. It
was available in the beta 3 still, so the posts might be related to this
beta version.

Thanks to all of you for your support;
I will proove the scenarios, but I am sure, that I read 1000 times, that
this "feature" shoud be possible.

I'd be very reluctant to run *anything* on a TS server like that. I'd
lump it int he same box as screen savers, wallpaper, etc.. Resource
drains with not much benefit...

Yes, as Jolt mentioned, this feature is no longer available in the Windows
Server 2008 RTM. I have performed a test on the Windows Server 2008
Enterprise RTM and can't enable the Aero over the terminal service.

If you have any concerns on this issue, please do not hesitate to let us

Since no rasterization takes place on the TS, how rendering the
Aero-Desktop/Themes could drain resources on the server?

.. The GDI calls gets transmitted to the client and therer, depending on the
available GDI backend, the client will use rasterize the calls with more or
less hardware support. Why rendering the Aero desktop should stress the
server?
