Windows 2000 Server SP4
3.05 GHz Xeon processors (2)
Intel SE7501HG2 Board
4 GBs Memory

System Idle Process starts at 99% and over a weeks time it declines. As of
this writing and five days later, its at 40% with a CPU time of 399:26:42
and mem usage of 16K. All other processes appear to be running minimal
percentage of the CPU or none at all. Eventually I will need to reboot
bacause my clients begin experiencing poor performance.

Any suggestions

You need to find out which process takes up the remaining CPU time.

Re: System Idle Process

Other then checking the Task Manager is there a way I can do that. No other
process appears to be using the remaining CPU time. I checked all my
processes to make sure the are legit and I have not installed any new
software or hardware.

Re: System Idle Process

I don't know of an alternative process that shows me the various processor
loadings.

When I click the "CPU" column header twice in the Task Manager then the I
can see a list of processes sorted by CPU loading, with the most
CPU-intensive processes right up the top. When I add up the first few
processes then their sum is always 100%.

You must, of course, tick the box at the bottom that makes ALL processes
visible.

Re: System Idle Process

Here's an added twist. I neglected to check the box for all processes. When
checked, the System Idle jumps back up to 99%. As soon as I uncheck the box,
it goes back to 40%.
