Windows XP Professional

I have a desktop computer that has Windows XP Professional isatlled on it.
It was user-installed. Right now , i am having issues with Windows XP trying
to load. It comes to the WINDOWS XP loading screen with the green scrolling
bar below the XP logo. As it attempts to load, it freezes before the screen
switches from the welcome screen to the logon screen. What are the causes of
this and how can it be overcome so that Windows will start normally?

NOTE: Safe mode does work. Restore has been attempted but it can't get
passed that little bump as XP is loading

There are a lot of reasons this could happen - bad drivers, bad software,
etc. What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
If, for instance, you updated a driver you can roll it back from Safe Mode.
Or do a System Restore from Safe Mode.

You can also look at Event Viewer for clues from Safe Mode.
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

Otherwise, do clean-boot troubleshooting to find out what's running in
Regular Mode that isn't in Safe Mode.

We had a little power bump here. This problem shortly after that. As far as
I know, there weren't any additional drivers downloaded or updated before
then, nd there was no one on the computer when the power went out.

Check the System log of Event Viewer for Error Reports. Make sure you
are looking at an attempt to boot to normal mode and not a successful
boot to safe mode

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System log in Event Viewer for the last boot. No Information Reports or
Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer.Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

You may have hardware problems or need to do a Repair Install. I'd still
look at Event Viewer and try clean-boot troubleshooting.

Uninterruptible Power Supplies are a Good Thing. Consider buying one. I like
the Belkin 550's but APC makes good UPSes, too. Don't buy the cheapest; the
one you want will be around $60.
