Re: migration to a 2008 DC from 2003 DC posible?
Hello DanC,
Yes, start here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731188.aspx
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755199.aspx
In short:
-run adprep command from the 2008 disk against the 2003 schema master
-make sure you run AD integrated zones in the 2003 DNS server
-add 2008 as member server with preferred DNS only the 2003 DC/DNS on the NIC
-run dcpromo
-install DNS afterwards and wait for replication of zones, at least 15 minutes
-move the 5 FSMO roles
-make the 2008 Global catalog server
-reconfigure the clients to use the new DNS server
-run dcdiag /v and repadmin /showrepl to check for errors
-disconnect the old DC from the network and check if still everything works
-if yes, then reconnect the old DC and run dcpromo to delete it correctly
form AD
-delete the server from AD sites and services
-check that DNS is cleaned up from the old servername on all tabs
Best regards
