MY COMPUTER IS SET UP WITH A 20GB MAXTOR HD AS MY MAIN HD WITH WINDOWS XP PRO
INSTALLED THERE, A 160GB MAXTOR SLAVE INTERNALLY, A 160GB MAXTOR EXTERNAL HD,
AND A 1TB SEAGATE EXTERNAL HD.

TONIGHT I DECIDED TO WIPE THE INTERNAL MAXTOR 160GB. IT WAS MY C DRIVE AT
ONE TIME. IT STILL HAD REMNANTS OF XP ON IT. I USED WIPE DRIVE TO WIPE IT. 1
OVERWRITE. WHEN I REBOOTED 2 STRANGE EVENTS OCCURRED.

I WAS INFORMED BY POPUP THAT MY COMPUTER HAD UNDERGONE A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE
SINCE WINDOWS WAS ACTIVATED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REACTIVATE IN 3 DAYS.

AND THE 160GB INTERNAL HD WAS NOT RECOGNIZED IN "MY COMPUTER"

I WENT THROUGH THE TROUBLE SHOOTER 10 TIMES USING ALL POSSIBLE OPTIONS MORE
THAN ONCE. I REBOOTED 4 TIMES. I INSTALLED AN INTEL RAID UTILITY AND ITS
DRIVER. AND I USED DEVICE MANAGER.

DEVICE MANAGER RECOGNIZES THE 160GB HD. IT RECOGNIZES ALL 4 DRIVES.

WHEN I CLICKED ON PROPERTIES AND DID ALL THE OTHER TASKS THE TROUBLE SHOOTER
INSTRUCTED ME TO DO I WAS TOLD THE DEVICE IS WORKING PROPERLY.

I DID NOTICE THAT THE TOTAL SPACE ON THE DRIVE AND THE USABLE SPACE ARE
EXACTLY THE SAME. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST THAT THERE IS ALWAYS 8MB OF
TAKEN SPACE.

CAN SOMEONE EMAIL ME AT osec.sugar at gmail.com AND TELL ME HOW TO MAKE THE
COMPUTER RECOGNIZE THIS DRIVE IN "MY COMPUTER"????

THANKS.

Zero the drive properly next time, using a DOS app.

There's no need to shout.

RE: FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE HARD DRIVE

right click "my computer" then left click Manage. Open up the disk
management tool and see if the hard drive is there. Has it been made a
partition? Has it been formatted? I ssupect not, and that is why you cannot
see it in my computer.
