I have a 2003 Server SP1 which is being used for volume snapshots (EMC
Replication Manager) and BackupExec to back them up to tape nightly. About
once a month I get the below error in the event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7034
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName
Description:
The Virtual Disk Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this
number time(s).

After some searching around, I found the following two fixes which are meant
to resolve this issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949001 (339526_ENU_i386_zip.exe)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948699 (339708_ENU_i386_zip.exe)

They both link to separate hotfixes which show the same file information for
the update patch. That said, I'm a little confused as to why there are two
separate patches when they appear to resolve the same issue for the same
platform and which one I should be downloading and using. Has anyone come
across this matter and installed either of these hotfixes? Appreciate any
advice. Thanks.

You should really consider migrating to SP2 instead of using hotfixes.
In any case, either hotfix would work since they have the same
versions of the files.

Hello Barkley,

Use SP2 and all other updates, then go on with testing if the problem still
exist.

Hello Barkley,
They are the same, either should solve the problem.
