Why is it necessary to download and apply microsoft updates that state that
they have 0 (zero) KB, which to me means they are empty.

Re: Downloading and applying Microsoft updates........

It usually means they were previously downloaded but not yet installed.

Thank you for your replay, but I still do not understand. Perhaps I
was not clear. I went to the Microsoft Download site for XP, and did
a search for all updates that Microsoft says need to be installed on
my PC. I open each to read what they are for, since some may not be
for my particular configuration.
I have the Automatic update set to off, so I can choose and do the
updates manually, which I check on a weekly basis. That is when I see
that some have 0KB displayed, not when they already exist on my PC
ready to be installed.

Thanks again.....StanZ

Re: Downloading and applying Microsoft updates........

Are you using the correct Microsoft update
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/ ? This finds just updates based
on your configuration.
