Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Suggestions please on alternatives to Ad-Aware? I'm running Spybot just
fine, but I remember that Ad-Aware used to find a bunch of stuff Spybot
missed in XP. I tried running the latest version of Ad-Aware just now for
fun, and it stalls in the registry check. I've read the 64 bit will be out
'later in the year', but they are real late on everything. Thanks for your
help - IM

RE: Vista 64 bit - Alternatives to Ad-Aware?

How about Windows Defender? It's built in.

Re: Vista 64 bit - Alternatives to Ad-Aware?

Thanks for the suggestion Jester. Windows Defender isn't catching a bunch of
stuff that Spybot does catch. I remember that in XP with Windows Defender
and Spybot running, Ad-Aware caught a further big list of offenders. I'm not
critical of WD or SB, I just think the third screen is good - IM

Re: Vista 64 bit - Alternatives to Ad-Aware?

What are they catching that Defender does not catch? If there are real issues
that it fails to catch those can be reported to MS and the sigs will get
updated. Defender, by design, does not block tracking cookies because there
are hundreds of those on the average system and most of the tools that catch
them do so only to bolster their detection rates.

I take it your trying the 2007 version of Ad-Aware, that doesn't work with
any version of Vista yet
The old version is on Softpedia's website.
