Hi friends, I recently install a new server with W2k3-R2 with a new domain
but I have a smaller machine with SBS2k3, could I used as replicate domain
controller? and as replicate dhcp and dns server? I'm trying to implement
fault tolerance with assets that I have, what you think about it?

Hello Hernan,

You can not add SBS to a running domain. A SBS server has to be the FSMO
role holder in a domain. You can add additional DC's to a SBS domain, that's
no problem. So in your case do it the other way around.

Well, yes you *can* install SBS into a existing forest, single domain, with
no external trusts. There are other very specific limitations and
restrictions, but is is possible and supported. Meinolf is correct that the
SBS server must hold all FSMO roles, be a global catalog, and have licensing
service enabled and running as well.

See the following article for the how to;

Re: sbs as repl domain server

Hello kj [SBS MVP],

Thanks for clarify this part. I just have the thoughts to use the SBS only
for redundancy without moving any roles to it like a normal DC. With your
way provided the SBS becomes the "domain master" and not an additional DC
in the domain.

It's still *best* (as you originally advised) to start with SBS on the most
reliable, most capable. primary server and add additional servers and DCs
from there.

Unless there is a substantial investment in the existing domain, users,
profiles, workstations,etc..... I'd just start over building SBS first like
you suggested.
