My C: drive is nearly full with less than 600 MB free space left. And it is
all of the Windows Update downloads. I only use 2x18 GB SCSI drives mirrored
for my OS and all I basically have on C: is the OS and system programs. Buy
my Windows directory is using about 14 GB of the space.

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB823182$

Can I delete these? Or move them to another volume in case I need to
uninstall (highly unlikely) these updates? I know I will not be able to use
Add/Remove programs to remove once I get rid of these but this is my only
option. thanks in advance and apprecite any quick post back.

Re: Help!! I need to delete the Windows Update files.......

Yes you can but do not delete the $hf_mig$ folder that these are in. Everything inside that folder can go

Great and thanks Peter. Just to be safe I moved all of the uninstalls
"C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB823182$" in cse I need to uninstall for some
reason and deleted all the downloads in the $hf_mig$hf folder. Freed up
about 2 GB worth which is sufficient but would like to free up more.
Anything else you can suggest"

Re: Help!! I need to delete the Windows Update files.......

Hello AllenM,

If you have an additional harddisk you can move the pagefile. Also check
the c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder, this is only used during the
update phase and the complete content is not needed after that. To delete
it stop the automatic update service, the folder structure inside will be
rebuild if you start the service again.

Best regards

Re: Help!! I need to delete the Windows Update files.......

Hi Meinolf and thank you for your input. I don't have the pagefile.sys on my
C: drive. The c:\windows\softwaredistribution folder is only 155MB so that
isn't much help.

Re: Help!! I need to delete the Windows Update files.......

Is it safe to delete the C:\Windows\ServicePackfiles contenets? I believe
the reprocussions to this would be that I wouldn't be able to remove
installed service packs?

Low on disk space

Low on disk space

I am running out of disk space also and would like to duplicate your procedure. Just to verify, you moved all the uninstall files to another location and deleted the downloads within the $hf_mig$hf folder? I understand not to delete the $hf_mig$hf folder itself.

Has there been any problems with your server after deleting the files?

Thank you for your help.

DougP

Re: Low on disk space

Hello DougP,

You should not delete/touch the $hfmig$ folder, these contains all information
update the updates. Leave it there and delete all other KBxxxxxx fodlers.

Best regards
