I apologize - I inadvertantly posted to the wrong group. If you have
responded with a positive response in the other group - Thanks!

My husband purchased a Toshiba laptop for Christmas 07. A week after using
it, it shut down on me while playing a game on the Toshiba games installed on
the computer. If you have to be connected to the Internet for the games to
work. When the laptop shut down, it went to a black screen. I at that point
contributed to being on the computer for a couple of hours and that the
laptop was hot.

It did it a couple of times after that and we took it back to Best Buy and
told the Geek Squad what happened and basically we were told that it was b/c
of Windows Vista and that there was nothing that they could do.

This has continued and we haven't been able to return back to Best Buy to
have it checked out again. The computer will go to black screen every time
we get on the Internet. This is usually after 2 minutes and it will shut
down. The computer buttons are still lit up, but the screen is black and
pressing buttons, touching the touchpad etc, do not do anything. The only
that works is powering the computer off, which takes the entire 5 seconds and
the reboots with the "Windows was improperly shut down" screen. Once we log
back in, it seems okay.

Is this Windows Vista and can this be fixed by any updates. I update
everytime there is an update. Could this be a Toshiba problem as opposed to
a Windows Vista problem?

This is not Windows Vista. BestBuy and the GeekSquad have worked their usual
"magic" again and wriggled out of supporting a customer. From your
description of the issue, it sounds like hardware failure. Probably the
network adapter (which is on the motherboard) is faulty. Take the machine
back and get it fixed and/or replaced.

Ignore Geek Squad. Take it to your local Toshiba Service Center who are
properly certified to diagnose and cure the problem. You can find our where
they are from the Toshiba website.
