I currently have an ACER Aspire One, running XP Home. I was able to install
the Remote Desktop terminal tool to access an HP computer on my network thats
running XP Pro. I would like to have reciprocal capability to access the
ACER from the HP. Unfortunately, appaerntly XP Home does not include the
Remote Desktop access software.

Is there a download (ie. plugin, etc.) to install into XP Home to allow
Remote Desktop access to the ACER?

Re: Remote Desktop

You cannot remote desktop into XP Home. You would need 3rd party software,
such as Symantec's PC Anywhere.

As has already been noted, an XP Home Edition system cannot host a Remote
Desktop session.

Here are a couple of alternatives you might want to look into.

UltraVNC

TeamViewer

Good luck

UltraVNC is a free alternative to pcAnywhere.

Re: Remote Desktop

Thanks Pepper, smlunatick and Nepatsfan.

I appreciate the quick response from all of you. I was aware of WinVNC, but
you've given me additional options. I was just hoping that Microsoft had a
download; it just seemed odd that XP Home would have the terminal end, but
not the access endpoint. Perhaps they thought the access endpoint might
leave tha average home user open to attacks if they we unfamiliar with the
Remote Desktop.

Thanks again,
