Hello all..
I am having trouble connecting to the internet on my pc.
I get:
"Error 691: The computer you are dialing in to cannot establish a Dial-Up
Networking connection. Check your password, and then try again. "

Im positive the password Im using is correct. So thats not it.

Im also getting the error message of "Firefox has caused an error in
DIBENG.DLL
Firefox will now close."

Does anyone have any idea of what could be the cause of this?
I am running Windows ME.

Thanks in advance for all of your help..

Tarcia

Re: Dial up connection problems

There may be other solutions, but this one is worth a try:

You may want to hold off on this, Honeysweet, and wait for a better
solution.
I missed the 'Regcure' propostion and that's not good, so please, wait.

Harry.

Re: Dial up connection problems

Webster....don't offer any of your off-the-wall solutions.....lord only
knows where you find them. Probably via Google and you have absolutely
no knowledge of what you are doing!!

That little beauty was obviously shilling for RegCure. Duh!!

Re: Dial up connection problems

Tarcia, I've not suffered this problem myself, so can only offer following
possible MS explanation/solution which applies to WinMe :-
"Error 691: The Computer You Are Dialing in to Cannot Establish a Dial-Up
Networking Connection"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188120

FWIW - the 'correct' WinMe version of Rasapi32.dll is 4.90.0.3000 dated 8
June 2000 @ 17:00, is 249,856 bytes and should be located in Windows\system
folder.

Regarding the Dibeng.dll error, it may or may not be related to the previous
issue but I can only find the following KB article which I doubt it being of
any real relevance :-
"General Protection Fault in Module Dibeng.dll"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/235618

What happens if you use WinMe Internet Explorer instead of FF?

Can't really help any further. Good luck.

Mart

An indicator perhaps, Rocky?

FWIW - I don't use Fire Fox "." (full-stop), so I can't really comment.

RE: Dial up connection problems

Go to Network in the Control Panel. Make sure your primary network logon is
Client for Microsoft Networks. On Access Control make sure you've allowed
sharing. You should also have two TCP/IP Dial up adapters. If all OK, go to
Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup and make sure Dial up Networking is
checked. There should be 0 meg showing.

(Corday)Re: Dial up connection problems

To answer you,
Yes, Its already set at "Client for Microsoft Networks".
On the Access Control, its set at "Share-level access control".
I also see 2 TCP/IP Dial up Adapters.
And yes, the Dial up Networking is checked and says 0.0 MB

Mart's ? as to whether you can use IE6 is important to diagnosing the
problem. Please answer and I'm sure someone will help.

Re: (Corday)Re: Dial up connection problems

Hello..I did answer all questions..but I see Im getting back a bunch of
mailer daemons..and what looks
like anti-spam emails..seems like I clicked "reply to sender" instead of
"reply to group".
Sorry..habit for me to reply to an individual..didnt notice my replies didnt
go thru until I got the return emails..
So I am unsure of what answer went thru and which didnt.
But to answer you, IE6 gives me the same DIBENG.DLL error message.
Sometimes I get the message right away, and sometimes I get it after about 5
minutes or so.

thanks again

Re: Dial up connection problems

As explained in my previous email, I am unsure of which of my replies went
thru and what didnt.
But no, I am not using FireFox3. I just recently upgraded what I had to
version 2.
Would that be the cause of it maybe?

Thanks again

Re: Dial up connection problems

OK, let's try and recap a little.

From your slightly earlier post today to Corday, you state that :-

> ... IE6 gives me the same DIBENG.DLL error message.

This file (Device-Independent Bitmap ENGine) is used in conjunction with
your Display Adapter Driver to cope with certain types of graphics,
suggesting that your Video Driver *MAY* be damaged or corrupted - you might
need to confirm that you have the correct WinMe driver for your PC, and/or
re-install it if necessary.

However, as I said in an earlier post, I'm not sure if the two problems you
first mentioned are related. My advice is that you treat each one
separately.

Returning to your first mentioned problem - the Error 691 issue - did you
check out the MS KB article I suggested in my original reply? :-
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/188120

If so, what was the outcome?

Mart

Re: (Corday)Re: Dial up connection problems

Re: (Corday)Re: Dial up connection problems

This might seem off the wall, but if you have a built in fax program set to
receive incoming faxes, try disabling that feature. The best Microsoft
solution is:
To create a new Telephon.ini file, follow these steps: 1. Rename the
Telephon.ini file located in the \Windows folder to Telephon.old.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Double-click the Tapiini.exe file located in the \Windows\System folder.
Note that the program runs very quickly. The Tapiini.exe file creates a new
Telephon.ini file in the \Windows folder.
By the way, DIBENG.dll is a Windows DIB Engine.
Good Luck!

Re: (Corday)Re: Dial up connection problems

Re: (Corday)Re: Dial up connection problems

Ive done this before, but it was awhile ago, so I did it again tonight..
Whats strange is that I notice the new Telephon.ini file before I double
clicked the Tapiini.exe file.
I did it twice just now with the same results. I double clicked the
Tapiini.exe file anyway, but still the "error 691" message. I will say that
I am not getting the DIBENG.DLL error message anymore.
I am not sure what I did or how it got corrected..but I havent seen it at
all last night or today.
Yay!
Now its just the 691 error driving me nuts..

Oh and yes..I believe I do have a built in fax program..sounds familiar..Ive
never used it. I will go look now and disable it if its active.
