Full Server backup has failed every time since Virtual Server was installed.
The error message received is ...

The VSS writer for Virtual Server failed during the PostBackup phase, during
the mounting of disk
\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy71\Users\Public\Documents\Shared
Virtual Machines\Win2k3VPC\Win2k3VPC.vhd for virtual machine Win2k3VPC. The
disk was a foreign/offline disk and the writer failed to make it Online, in
order to access volumes on the disk.

I do not beleive the disk is foreign (standard fixed size VHD) and
definitely not offline.

If I take the VM offline backup will work OK. However I would prefer for the
VM to remain online if possible.

RE: Sever 2008 Backup fails with Virtual Server 2005 R2

Thank you for your reply. Backup is still failing. The versions of host and
guest I am now running are...

Host:
Virtual Server version 1.1.629.0 EE R2 SP1
Administration Website version 1.1.629.0 EE R2 SP1
Support drivers Virtual Machine Monitor (Version 1.1.629.0)
Virtual Machine Network Services Driver (Version 2.6.623.0)

Machine Additions: 13.820

The Virtual Server event is...

The VSS writer for Virtual Server failed during the PostBackup phase, during
the mounting of disk
\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy76\Users\Public\Documents\Shared
Virtual Machines\Win2k3VPC\Win2k3VPC.vhd for virtual machine Win2k3VPC. The
disk did not come online within 5 minutes. Confirm that the vhd mount driver
in installed correctly and is able to mount virtual hard disks.

And the backup event is...

Backup started at '{bc533fe1-2597-4311-9270-733cf0496240}' failed as Volume
Shadow copy operation failed for backup volumes with following error code
'2155348001'.

The VHD size is 10GB.
