You may have things in the wrong order . . .
1. A home page is an address on the WWW (= World Wide
Web = Internet. URL = Universal Resource Locator, techies'
word for a web address.)
2. In order to connect with a web address any PC needs
an Internet Browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
This is a piece of software (usually free: both those are.)
3. Default web browser for Win98 is IE version 6 (perhaps 7,
although this was issued for WinXP.) Win98 instals IE.v.4
by default, and you have to use it to connect to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
(and try to locate the version you want, that will run under Win98.)
The short name of Internet Explorer is IEXPLORE.EXE -- so if
it is not listed on your Start Menu you can start it by
/ start / run / IEXPLORE.EXE
It is easy to customize the Start Menu i.e. get rid of the
junk and add any EXEcutable filel you want. It is an ordinary
Win98 folder at
c:\windows\start menu
containing links to EXEcutables (programs.) You can put
any link anywhere you like. Those stored directly in
c:\windows\start menu
willl show as soon as you key the Start button, i.e. one
tier above those in c:\windows\start menu\programs.
Or you can simply keep on your Desktop an icon for
(link to) your web browser.
When you know how to start your web browser:
1. You may get first a Microsoft menu insisting on a
couple of choices how you want it to look. Do these
because otherwise you will see this menu again.
2. To go to your chosen URL, just type it in the
top white box and key RETurn.
3. To make this your default home page (i.e. connect
with this URL every time you go on line) use / Tools / Options.
