DVD-ROM - Driver not recognized

After of year of working, my external USB DVD burner would not load the
device driver. The hardware was correctly recognized in Vista 64-bit (as
well as in my BIOS). I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, using other USB
ports, trying to update driver, and booting in Safe Mode. Nothing worked.
Odd thing is that when I did check to update the driver Vista reports I have
the latest version of the driver installed. So, I assumed it was a bad drive
and bought a new one today (different brand) - same thing. Any solutions or
ideas on this? Thanks, Tom

Thanks Carlos, that was the solution (and thanks for all the great help you
give on this newsgroup). But, does anyone know what these "filters" are and
how to prevent this from happening again?

This dates back to early 2006

Read Darrell Gorter notes below mine in that page.
