Hi everyone!

I have a Dell Dimension running Windows XP with enough RAM!

Today when I tried opening up My Photos folder from my C drive, it took a
VERY long time to open. Once I opened a selected a folder within My Photos,
the folder opened, but when I chose to go back, it took a very long time to
perform that activity, as well. Rebooting the computer did not help.
Opening up the My Pictures folder from my external G hard drive (everything
is back up there) opened instantly.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

RE: My Photos folder opens VERY slowly...

Follow-up to original post.

No spyware, no malware, no viruses.
Have defragmented.
Rebooted, same issue. All other folders open instantly except for My Photos
on my C drive.

So I created a new folder called My Photos 1 and copied all my pictures to
this folder. When I click on it, it opens instantly. Can I simply delete
the My Photos folder, rename the folder I created to My Photos?

Thanks!

You can restore the My Pictures folder with this command:

Open the Run box and enter:
rundll32.exe mydocs.dll,PerUserInit

Delete the "My Pictures" folder then run that command.

Read the post, this has nothing to do with My pictures. He has
my photos on the C drive.

Re: My Photos folder opens VERY slowly...

Hi,

Use for any ext.....

This has to do with how Windows XP previews files when opened with Explorer.

Suggestions:

1. Disable thumbnail view by going to Start/Run/CMD: regsvr32 /u
shmedia.dll
2. And/or run this edit. This edit prevents high usage when browsing AVI
files.

Automated:

AVI Search Remove (Line 74)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Manual Edit: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to the key below and
delete the default data (right pane).

Or:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler

Actually, I meant to say My Pictures folder.

Re: My Photos folder opens VERY slowly...

I haven't tried this yet, but if what you say is tru, why do the same files
open instantly when I click on the My Pictures folder on my external drive?

Thanks.

Re: My Photos folder opens VERY slowly...

One more thing to add. If I first open Picasa, I can view all my pictures,
and can also directly navigate to the subfolders within My Pictures from
within Picasa. The photos open instantaneously. Same if I first load up
Photoshop Elements.

Just have this delay when clicking on the My Pictures folder, and this is
recent.

Only recent software addition was a reinstallation of my Epson Perfection
3170 Photo scanner that had stopped working.

Any other ideas?

Thank you!

Howard
