UPDATES NOT INSTALLING?

I just did a full reinstall of XP Professional and Office 2007. I
downloaded and installed SP3 for XP and SP1 for Office.

Now Windows/Office keeps asking me to install 35 programs that seem to have
0 content and take 0 minutes to install.
It downloads those programs and then tells me the installations failed.

Is it safe to assume that these updates were part of the SP's that I
downloaded/installed.

If so, is it safe to tell Microsoft not to ask me again about these
programs?

Alternatively, what is going on?

Thank you.

Note also: I get a message that says something on my computer is preventing
the installation of those updates....but there was no problem with the SP's.

Re: UPDATES NOT INSTALLING?

Usually Method 1 is sufficient, but you may need to go onto Method 2 -
ignore the title if you feel it irrelevant -

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
