About 2 days ago I reformatted my computer and loaded XP 64 bit onto it.
Today it rebooted itself about 3 times while I was working on it. Has
anybody experienced this problem or can anyone give me guidance as to what
would be causing this and/or how to fix this issue? Thanks!

Re: XP 64bit spontaneous reboot

I had this problem. I had to increase the voltage for the memory to get it
to stabalize. That dropped the reboots to maybe once a day. I yanked the
memory, bought a set of 2GB sticks that were on my motherboards manufactures
"approved" list, and now it is rock solid.

Moral of the story - bad memory, bios settings, cheap memory - and a whole
slew of things that don't have anything to do with memory - can cause this.

Re: XP 64bit spontaneous reboot

Please set the system to not automatically reboot on error so that you can
read the error message. Then report back. Also, check the Event viewer for
possible reports there. (I'm not hopeful, but maybe there's a clue)

Usually some type of hardware problem.

Just curious as to why you reformatted the machine?

If you did so due to problems...and a fresh install did not clear it up...
leads me even more to conclude the H/W is at fault.

I'd run a RAM test
and also the manufacturer's harddrive diagnostic

Re: XP 64bit spontaneous reboot

With about 90% of my Win2000+ machines, they ignore this setting. They all
verily happily reboot after a BSOD, regardless of this setting. Am I lucky,
or have others noticed this?

Re: XP 64bit spontaneous reboot

I don't have any issues with this. IF it actually generates a BSOD, it's
maintained. The problem is when there's no BSOD because of a spontaneous
hardware failure.
