Hi all,
My computer showed "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed ...."
when I tried to install a new printer software to the PC. I tried methods 1
and 2 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346 without success.

Method 1: Reregister the Windows Installer
Method 2: Reinstall the Windows Installer - Needed to renamed msiexec.exe to
msiexec.old, msihnd.dll to msihnd.old and msi.dll to msi.old before new WI
installation.

The problem after reinstalling the WI version 3.1 v2 is that the WI can't
start. When I tried the services.msc and tried to manually start WI, it can't
find the file msiexec.exe. Somehow the renamed files were not re-created
after the new WI installation. I tried to rename the *.old files back to the
original file extension. The WI started but I got the same "Windows Installer
could not be accessed ...." error message when I tried to install the
printer software.

Please help and thanks in advance

Re: Windows Installer problem on Windows XP SP1

Why are you still running WinXP SP1 four years after the release of SP2 and
5 months after the release of SP3?

RE: Windows Installer problem on Windows XP SP1

Try to rename thme again and then run this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en&displaylang=en

then, if that still doesn't work, upgrade to SP3
