What is sidebar.exe?

I keep getting a repeated error window labeled 'sidebar.exe - no disk'
and an error message 'There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a
disk into drive \Device\Hardisk3\DR7' with the options Cancel, Try
Again, and Continue.

I have searched my hard drive for sidebar and have found nothing.

What is it? How do I get rid of it? It just started and won't stop.

Thanks

Re: What is sidebar.exe?

Sidebar.exe is most often associated with SearchCentrix hijackware/adware.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?

I found sidebar.exe by changing search parameters. My oversight. I
could not delete it until I booted up in safe mode. After that, it
has not appeared. I have no idea from whence it came.

I made two posts because for some reason, my posts seemed to not make
it. I hope this one will. When I asked Forte Agent to show me new
headers for the news group, it said there were none. Yet when I
finally in desperation asked Agent to show all headers for today - my
posts were there. Go figure! I am beginning to think my version of
Agent has a mind of its own.

Sorry about the double posts.

Thanks

You'd be much better off accessing this and other MS newsgroups using the
free MS newsserver: news://msnews.microsoft.com
