I am setting up a terminal service gateway in Windows 2008 domain in our lab.
I followed the step-by-step tutorial.

I had this problem: the ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential (The
logon attempt failed). I enter the credential in this format:
domain_name\username, and password. Occasionally the ts gateway works,
usually after the server is restart . With unknown reason, it does not work
sometime later.

Any idea on the cause and diagnostic steps? Thanks a lot.

RE: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

By the way, both NPS and TS gateway reside in the same server. It is NAP
senario in step-by-step guide. When the user credentials are rejected, I
cannot find corresponding record in opertaional log of TS gateway.

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

1. Have you configured the TS CAPs and TS RAPs properly on the Gateway
machine?
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731435.aspx
2. What is the exact error you are getting when you attempt to log in?

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

Thanks for the reply. I have configured TS CAPs and RAPs. The problem is,
if you click remote desktop tab TS web access, then click options, you can
see a buch of device redirection options. Some are solid black with allows
user to enable or disable, and some are grey, which are disabled by
administrator by setting application settings in IIS/ts directory.

So I set the true and false for corresponding device redirection options in
the application settings. But the web page shows that the changes are not
honored. Say I want to not allow user to enable or disable printer
redirection. As result, the printer redirection option is still solid black,
so users can still enable this option.

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

Sorry, I thought it was my another question "Unable to control of device
redirection options on TS Web Access". So i do it again.

I have configured TS CAPs and RAPs. There is no real error message. The
logon page just keeps asking user credential with logon failure on the page.
I checked NPS and gateway log, no event is logged either. It looks like the
logon does not even reach the gateway.

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

Is your client non-vista x64 machines?? Also are you using saved
credentials? What win2k8 edition are you using?

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

Hi,

What edition of the server 2008 are you running -
Enterprise/datacenter/SBS?? Also, do you have multiple roles installed -
like exchange, VPN server on the same gateway machine?

Its interesting that you say that the TSG starts working after a
restart...When you open the snap-in on the TSG manager, do you see any error
messages?

Thanks,
Gk

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

It's standard version. roles running on are IIS, ftp, certificate, nps, and
ts gateway. There is no error message on the gateway and nps. So I guessed
sometimes the request did not even reach the gateway. I put the single ts
gateway into gateway farm in the gateway configuration. A few days before, I
removed it from the gateway farm (i.e., no gateway farm now). It seems that
rejection problem is reduced. No sure if it has been solved or not since as
before the issue come back and forth for unknown reason(s) to me. Do you
think the change I made matters?

Re: help: ts gateway keeps rejecting user credential

I have also seen the same issue with my TS Gateway server. It runs fine for a
while and then begins to fail with the TS Login. I don't see anything in the
log. If I reboot the server then it starts working again. Let me know if you
find anything.
