We're using Windows server 2003 Standard version (5.2 SP2); we use the
server to store user data & PST files. Everyones current PST file is stored
locally on the C drive but all archive PST files are kept on the server
with the users connecting to them via a mapped drive 'U'; i.e. user 1 may
have:
user1: C:\pst\user1.pst
user1archive: U\userdata\pst\archive\user1archive1.pst
The problem we are experiencing is that occasionally users are unable to
open / expand their archive PSTs, when this occurs the whole of the archive
folder on the server is 'locked'. The only solution to the problem is to
use 'Open Files' under 'Shared Folders' in 'Computer Management' to close
every file that is open in the 'U\userdata\pst\archive\' folder & then
close & re-open Outlook. I've examined the event logs but have not seen any
entries relating to this problem; I have seen something similar under KB
Q106167 but this relates to Windows NT not server 2003.
Does anyone know the cause of & solution to this problem, I can post any
further information if required?
TIA, Jase
