Alright I know there are other threads about this - I read them and
tried what they said. Nope. Randomly, my DVD drive disappears from My
computer. The only things slighly related to this that I did is I took
Daemon Tools and PowerISO off of the startup list. After trying to play
a game and realizing that the computer does not see a CD, I realzied I
have a problem. I put PowerISO and Daemon Tools back on the startup
list. Restart. Nothing. Restart. Nothin. I deinstalled the two programs.
Nothing. I soon realized I cannot even open my DVD drive. It does not
show up in device manager. But it does have a little green light, so I
don't think connection is the problem (+the laptop stays on my desk,
doesn't go anywhere). i have tried the registry delete the upper + lower
somethings, but they arent there to begin with. Please help!

BTW, my laptop is dell 6400 vista ultimate 32bit.

Re: HELP! DVD Drive not working!

Hi rc2718kad, and welcome to the vista forums,

First thing I would look at is the physical connection to the drive,
i've seen this on many PC's and disconnecting and reconnecting will cure
the problem. if this were a desktop that of course would be easy :(,
with a laptop it is more difficult. If the drive is removable you could
try this and re-seating the unit
