An Epson TM-T88IIIP printer is connected to my local (client) computer
running windows XP. I can print to it using port ESDPRT001 with description
LPT1. When I remote using windows remote desktop to my server which is a
Dell Poweredge 830 running windows server 2003 R2 64, I cannot print. I have
read that any port that does not begin with COM, LPT, or USB are not
redirected using remote desktop. Do you have any suggestions for me to be
able to print?
I do have another printer that uses port DOT4_001 and is a multifunction
printer. I can print to this printer when I use remote desktop.

Thank you for your reply Jeff. I would follow your advise by using kb302361,
but why would it fix the problem if the DOT004 printer can print?

RE: Printer port in remote desktop

Hi Yuri,
I have updated my system but my printer problem continues.

Re: Printer port in remote desktop

When you write "I cannot print", do you mean that you don't even
see the printer (it's not redirected at all), or that you do see
the printer, but it will not produce any output?
If the printer isn't redirected at all, then you can try Jeff's
suggestion first, and if that doesn't work, map the printer to an
existing driver on the server (check the eventlog for printer
events for more info).
If the printer is redirected but doesn't print, then the driver is
not TS compatible (I expect this to be the problem, either already
now, or when you get the printer to redirect).

Problem Solved

Problem Solved

Thanks Vera,
I changed the driver to generic text and changed the port to LPT1. Now I
can print remotely. Using Epson's printer driver and port made remote
printing...well, impossible even thought the printer was redirected (it
became my default printer upon connecting remotely in the printer's and faxes
page). Now I just need to make it work with my POS application.
