Can no longer search by "a word or phrase in the file"

I used to use "search" regularly to find files that had been saved on my hard
drive. I would search "all files or folders", type in the name that I wanted
to find, ask for the in which I had stored the file, select the date range
within which I had created it, click search, and I would be shown a list of
the files containing that name, and then I could open the appropriate file.
I recently uninstalled Norton Security, ran defragment and checkdisk, then
installed Mcafee security. Since then I cannot search by word in a file. I
keep getting an answer that there are no files, even if I look in a file or
folder in which I know that a file containing that word, within that time
frame, exists. When my search function was working, I did try using both
Windows live desktop search and Google desktop for a time, but found that
neither worked as well as as simply going to "start" and "search" that I had
used both before and after trying those programmes. Have I unknowingly made
a change, that I cannot find in my settings, that is preventing me from
searching?

MS "Search" is flakey. Use Agent Ransack instead. It's free, faster, and
more versatile
