Hi All,

User has windows XP pro SP2. Problem is that every time he logs in, he gets
an error message that a temporary profile has been created. In trying to
find a solution for this problem, we have renamed all the existing profile
folders (except administrator) on his system and also deleted any references
to unknown profiles in the User Profiles window. I checked his registry
settings and there are no references to his account left. So as far as I can
tell, it should create a new profile in his name, yet every time it creates
a temporary profile.

Although the user is on a network and logs on to our domain at startup, his
profile is supposed to be local. User connects to our network via VPN, so he
is not connected when he logs on.

Is there any way to make a temporary profile permanent?

Thanks,
Brian

If he's constantly getting profile corruption (which is why he's getting a
temporary profile), perhaps you should do some hardware testing of at least
his RAM and hard drive.

Re: User Always get Temporary Profile

Maybe you should consider making copies of all his desktop files & My
Document files. Then go to add and remove users and delete all profiles
except the administrator profile. Then create a new profile with
administrative rights. You mention renaming all existing profile folders.
In XP the profile 'ALL USERS', would be used when creating a new profile as
it's settings are global and apply to all users. If you renamed that
profile folder, there may be a disconnect in what the registry is telling
windows to do when you create a profile.

Sorry, I was typing too fast. I renamed all of the user's profile folders
(there seemed to be several profiles, probably from multiple attempts). All
users is still in-tact.
