I am an administrator of a Windows Server 2000 active directory
network and do allot of remote administration on users computers. When
trying to check the event log or check user groups on a remote machine
using computer management I get an access denied error. Now I can
still get to the admin share on remote machines and this method works
perfectly on Windows 2000 boxes. The error is only on XP and Server
2003 machines.
Something else that is broke is the ability to do remote installs of
Symantec Anti Virus. I can not push out installs from my desk.
After some googling I have seen some posts about updating Active
Directory to work with XP and Server 2003. What I have not found is
clear instructions on how to do this. Can someone point me in the
right direction to get this done or if this is not the problem is
there a solution? Thank you.
Re: Access denied when using computer managment on remote computers
Do you also get access denied if you connect directly to the IP address of
the remote computer?

Re: Access denied when using computer managment on remote computers
No, I can not access with machine name or ip address. And let me make
a correction to my first post. I can access local users and groups it
is device manager that I can not access. So event viewer and device
manager give access denied messages.

Re: Access denied when using computer managment on remote computers
You get this problem with MTU size over a VPN.
Also, just check the DNS for duplicate or old addresses. If these are wrong,
sometimes you are not connecting to the machine you think you are,
