Re: 952241
Hi, Thank you for replying to my request for help.
Yes, KB952241 is repeatedly as Updates to be installed but I also followed
instructions that I got on the Microsoft web site to do some steps manually
but these also failed. I have mentioned this in my first post.
I did not re-install XP but I did install SP3.
This summer, I upgraded my hard disk from about 70GB to 320GB. As part of
that upgrade, I also bought and use a few external enclosures with similar
320GB hard disks to make mirror backup that can be swapped if my main drive
ever crashes.
I had previously got Office 2007 but only installed it after the hard disk
upgrade.
Recently I needed to revert to an earlier of these backup. That is, I needed
to swap hard disks. I swapped to one that did not have Office 2007. So I
attempted to re-install office 2007 but then aborted by just clicking Cancel
and it stopped gracefully with no warnings or such. However, I did notice
that the aborted process had made changes to the Main 'Start', 'All Program'
menu, now all the references to my previous Office 2000 are gone although the
programs seemed intact. That is all I can think of, and as I mentioned I do
have VS 2008 since about March of this year but sometimes, again only
recently, when starting my older VB6 program, I am requested insert the
VS2008 install disk. I can press ESC twice to by-past this but if I do insert
the disk that action causes my computer to act strange. The DVD drive refuses
to open normally needing a paper clip inserted into the release catch to
open. Also the Windows Start button becomes inaccessible and the computers
goes into a very slow mode, not hung but very, very, slow, and needs to shut
it down and re-started. Today, I just decided to re-install Office 2007 onto
my 'new' hard disk and that problem with VB6 start-up has gone. After
installing Office 2007 and Office 2007 SP1, I needed to install 13 new
updates. However, three failed as well as my old friend 952241, making four
failed in all, (951944, 954326, 946691 and 952241).
I done know if any of these things are related but that is a recent history
on my system installs/updates. Oh, I installed a program called
ProcessExplorer yesterday, which I found through searching the MSDN for help
with the problem of these updates and it seem to be recommended. So that the
lot.
I am sorry that this post is so long.
