Windows updates won't install

For the past two or three weeks I've been having a problem with the
online updates downloading to my computer but the installation fails
everytime. In order to get any security or optional updates to install,
I have to download them manually from the MS website and install from
there by double-clicking the file. I've tried looking at the
"troubleshooting" guides but they're next to worthless as not many deal
with my particular problem. I've followed the directions of the two
that did have possible solutions (i.e. change internet settings in
Explorers security section) but it didn't pan out.

Anyone have a clue what could be blocking the updates from installing?
They download fine but that's the extent of it. Also, does anyone here
know the directory where the updates are downloaded to? Maybe I can
come up with something from that angle. Thanks for any help with this.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a missing Registry Key -
SensLogn. Take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910341

CrystalBall© sez...

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you perform a new Windows XP
installation or you repair a Windows XP installation
