KB958644 repeatedly fails to install on Windows Server 2008 x64 -error code 80070002

Hi all, I'm having some trouble getting this patch to apply to my
system. I have gone through the documented support steps of deleting
c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\{DataStore,Download}, and when that did
not work, I tried the next step of renaming the SoftwareDistribution
folder (with reboots between each step). None of these steps have
resolved the issue, that this update just refuses to install. The most
recent snippet of my WindowsUpdate.log file is attached.

Any help or insight is appreciated.

The update you're trying to install is an x64 update...

But according to what I can find on Dell's site the "DXP061" is a 32-bit
systemboard.

That would be the confirmation that KB958644 did NOT install properly! :-)

Now the question is: Why!?

Try downloading the update direct from the Microsoft Download Center, and
installing it directly:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8E-0CC1-4136-A68C-BE4E1633C8DF&displaylang=en

perhaps that will either work, or provide us a better indication as to why
it's failing.

Note: Making the system as idle as possible might also help.

If it fails again, and given the criticality of this update, I would
recommend contacting Microsoft Support directly at 1-866-PCSAFETY
(727-2338), which is a free support call, and get them to help you sort out
the failure.
