hi all, it has been difficult finding any info or guides on how to set up my
server for game hosting, so i hope someone here can help! Let me start out by
saying the hardware and bandwidth are more than adequate to run a dedicated
server here. I am running windows server 2003 enterprise edition x64, and i
would like to know what role to run for a server that will be used only for
hosting a dedicated gaming server, and any management or setup tweaks,
bandwidth and security tips would also be helpful, i dont need game specific
help, i have that covered , the server can run the dedicated mode now, but i
have not really finished setting it up properly, just out of the box ,
drivers and updates , and loaded game files, and it runs,, but, still im sure
there is more i need to do, to get the best out of the server OS

thanks in advance,
mark

Just use the App server role. Any should work. The App server might give a
bit more speed. But basicly a game server is an "app server" running on the
OS. I have a few games servers running and to be honest I have never pick a
server role. I just install the OS, Patch it and install the game server.
Besides most game servers are network intensive they are not to hard on CPU,
Memory or Hard Drives.

Good luck

hi jon ,, thanks for the response, yah its running great right now,, no app
role or anything else,, i did just that and ran it on fresh install , being
on 25/25 fiber , it seems not to care much about what i do,, it has great
ping and stability, so far up to 16 connections and no lag.. so i guess it
would be silly to turn on alot of services or roles i dont need.. thanks
again..mark
