Hi Community,
Looking for a dumb down explanation of VSS with NTBackup by adding /SNAPn
switch.
We use an application called Syspro, which if we were not a cheap
organization can use a SQL server - however we are stuck with the ISAM data
files for now.
Currently we backup the data nightly, after hours using CA ArcServ tape
backup.
I want to implement a backup that works on weekends to Hard disk and a daily
backup to hard disk.
Now, since the data files are constantly changing through out the day it
makes it difficult to backup the data until off-hours. Does VSS with
ntbackup take a snapshot of the data (all the data) at one specific instance
than use that copy to backup?
Or does it just handle Open files in sequential order... thus not really
getting a accurate copy since other records in tables can change while one
file is being backed up?
If it uses the above, is there a solution to do a real-time synchronization
of the data to another folder - than stop that synchronizing application - do
the backup of that and than restart the resynch?
