Mouse pointer in safe mode

I have WinXP Media center with SP3 installed. When I go to safe mode, the
mouse pointer does not work or move.What do you think the problem can be?

I have a wired mouse that does not work in safe mode. Device manager shows a
Logitech HID compliant Optical Wheel Mouse installed.

The mouse does not plug into a USB port. I found out what the problem is. I
used a Logitech USB mouse for a while and then switched back to my wired
mouse. However, The Logitech mouse drivers remained on my computer. I have
now replaced them with non USB drivers. I hope this works.

After checking the back of my computer, I found out that my mouse did plug
into a usb port.
