Lexmark X5270 on 2003 TS

Hello!

I called Lexmark and asked if the X5270 had terminal server compatible
drivers for Windows Server 2003. I got a tech who seemed confused when I
mentioned terminal server, but he did find a 2003 driver. When pressed to
tell me if it was TS-compatible, he hesitated, asked someone else, and then
said it was compatible.

Due to the nature of the conversation and the hesitancy in his voice, I
decided to ask here for real-world experience.

So, does anyone know if the drivers for the Lexmark X5270 are really
compatible with TS 2003, or perhaps which printer map I can use safely? Some
Google searches have said to try an HP LaserJet 4 driver, but this printer
is an inkjet. Would that still work?

According to this document

there is a "custom driver" that is compatible and is a 28MB download. I want
to be sure it is safe.

But supporting an OS does not necessarily mean that the driver also
supports Terminal Services on that OS.
You could start by mapping the driver to the closest Lexmark driver
which comes with Windows 2003 and see if that works.

Moncho,

According to the link in my post, it is supported when directly installed on
Server 2003, meaning the server can print to it. My point, and the one that
Vera also brought out, is that it may NOT be supported under terminal
services.

The fact that the "driver" file is 28MB leads me to believe it may be a
host-based driver, and those are not good to install for TS use.

Vera,

I have an old Lexmark mapping file that I found (I think) on the
www.printingsupport.com site before it went belly up.

That file does not have this X5270 listed. The two most common mappings are
"Lexmark 3000 Color Jetprinter" and "HP LaserJet 4" drivers.

I'll give both a shot. I was leery of the laser driver on an inkjet printer.
Is that a common thing to map? I could not even get the Lexmark tech to tell
me if it is a host-based or PCL-based driver, but the file size leads me to
believe it may be host-based.

I sent this link because Windows 2003 is NOT on the list.

I know Gregg has another document but I was pointing out
that this does not.

I am a little hesitant when I find conflicting documents on

There maybe a inkjet compatible driver amongst the Lexmark drivers
installed with 2003. Try using one currently on the server and see
if it works.

I believe your assumption about the file size equaling a host-based
driver is correct.
