Hi,
I am new to this discussion group and am hoping someone will be able to help
me with a problem that has cropped up today when I try to use MS Word.
I have been using Windows XP Home Edition successfully since its inception
years ago. It was pre-installed on my computer when I bought my computer
(new). I run the free edition of AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware, Windows
Defender and Spybot Search and Destroy. In all the years I have used my
computer I have never had a virus, worm or anything funny.
Today, when wanting to use MS Word to type a document, the following message
popped up in a typical MS box:- You must accept the End User Licence
Agreement (EULA) to use this software
It was Headed: Office XP End User Licence Agreement
Following directly thereunder: You must accept this End User Licence
Agreement (EULA) to use this software. If you don't accept this application
will quit.
Following thereunder in the box with a side scrollbar: END USER LICENCE
AGREEMENT FOR MICROSOFT (R) SOFTWARE NON OPERATING SYSTEM.
Thereafter follows a very very long agreement (far too long to retype here).
I click on the decline button as I AM NOT USING Windows XP Office , but
WIndows XP Home Edition. Upon clicking the decline button my Word page
closes and I am unable to use Word.
What is going on? Why has this, after many years, all of a sudden popped up
in my MS Word? How do I go about getting rid of it? What is it? Any help
in this regard will be very much appreciated.

Perhaps you installed an update to MS Word from Microsoft Update recently?

>How do I go about getting rid of it?

Click the Accept button and you shouldn't be bothered by it again(until you
update MS Word again that is).

If it keeps popping up even after you click on the Accept button then see
this KB article:

Good luck,

Sunshine, don't be confused between Windows XP and Office XP of which Word
is a part. Word is not included with the operating system, Windows XP. It
is included with two products that one of which was probably installed on
your computer by the manufacturer. Those two products are Microsoft Works
Suite or Microsoft Office.

The error message you posted is a known issue and is addressed by this KB
article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884202/en-us

Hope this helps, and if we can be of further assistance don't hesitate to
repost in the same thread.

Thank you for your reply and assistance. I went to the KB article as stated
above by you and followed the steps given therein. I was reticient to click
the accept button as I was unsure whether it would somehow corrupt my
computer hence my decision to post my query on this forum. All seems to be
working perfectly now. Thank you once again.

> Hi Donald,

Thank you for your advice. I waited for a few more replies before I went to
the KB article as listed above. Another poster explained the problem and
also referred me to the same KB article as yourself. I have carried out the
steps as stated in the KB article and my MS Word is working fine again.
Thank you for your time in helping me resolve this.
