I just discovered that there are two (2) 'Add or Remove Programs' entries in
the 'Control Panel'. Both are opening independently and are
functioning/responding normal.

What is causing this abnormality and how can I remove the 'extra' listing?

I rebooted twice but the 2 entries remain in the 'Control Panel'.

(My most recent download/installation was Java
jre-6u10-windows-i586-p-s.exe)

TIA.

Java updates do show more than one Add/Remove listing.
I have two showing.
Java (TM) 6 Update 2
Java (TM) 6 Update 7
Is this what you mean?
If not please be more specfic. More info not less is required.

Check for an extra copy of

appwiz.cpl

In C:\Windows\system32

You will need to set your system to show hidden folders and files.

Hi Yvonne,

Did you update to SP3? Updates of SP3 on some computers wound up with
multiple files being created and not removed. The most obvious result
was that users were seeing it in Control Panel, since multiple CPL files
were in the System32 folder.

Do an Explorer search for *.cpl and remove any duplicates. You may see
appwiz.cpl and appwiz(2).cpl. You can remove the ones with the numbers.

Did you ever resolve the hijackware & rootkit infections you had a month
ago? Could all of your recent problems be related?

Re: 2 'Add or Remove Programs' entries in 'Control Panel' .

Thanks for responding. There were two (2) items in System32. I removed
appwiz(2).cpl (Control Panel extension 537KB) and after rebooting the second
entry had disappeared.
