Erratic Temp Internet Files Folder

In the process of tracking down a possible virus problem, I did a search and
found the offending folder. I clicked Explore, and Explorer opened to the
folder of interest. I then opened another Explorer window so I could
compare a few things, and guess what, the folder did not show up?

I have hidden and protected files unhidden.

In other words, as I write this, I have two displays open:
1) C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 (which is where the problem file is)
2) C:\Documents and Settings\Dave\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
iles - there is no Content.IE5 folder

What's going on?

my suggestion is to move
the internet temp folder/files
to a new location like c:\temp

if you have no c:\temp then
simply create it.

-----------

what you will then have is the
"valid" internet folder in an
more accessiable location on
the disk after you move it.

afterwards you can then delete
the other internet folder.

in addition you can create a
desktop shortcut that can
delete the internet temp files
with ease.

right click on the desktop
select new shortcut and
enter the line below in
the input location window:

%windir%\system32\RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 8

Here's one solution:

Control Panel > Internet Options, find the setting for cache and set
it to 8MB. That should keep it clean and uncluttered. Also, there is a
setting in Internet Options > Advanced, to clear all cache out on
exit. That'll help you out also.

Here's a follow up to my earlier post:

Go to the Tools menu, and click Internet Options. Click the Advanced
tab. In the "Settings" box, scroll down to the section labeled
"Security," and click to check the box next to the "Empty Temporary
Internet Files folder when browser is closed" option. Click OK to
finish. This option does not delete cookies, but it will clear your
cache of other files when you close your browser.

OK everybody - I copy all that - But
The academic question remains, how can I get two different Explorers
simultaneously. (I had a real problem getting "Users' right some time
back - moved folders all over the place, but that doesn't explain - to me
anyway - why I'm getting different listings based on the same data.)
