I use Gmail & love it. I use
Mozilla Firefox as my browser.
So I don't use any Microsoft
products for either of these
tasks.
It used to be, when I was brows-
ing, if I clicked on a mailto link,
a new tab would open with a
blank Gmail compose box, & the
email address of the link I'd clicked.
I'd type my message in that Gmail
box & send it off.
A while back, when I did this,
nothing happened for about 15
seconds. Then suddenly, 58
Internet Explorer blank windows
would pop up & cascade all over
my screen.
I get a message to the effect that the
default mail client is not installed.
It doesn't happen on every web-
site; in fact, I think it only happens
when I try to reply to a Craigslist
ad.
When I've tried to set up Gmail as
my client in the XP control panel, it
is not there to choose. Nor is it there
when I try to configure IE's internet
options.
In the control panel, the message is
that Win XP should use the current
email prgram, but in IE, I'm offered
three Microsoft options--Hotmail,
Outlook & the other version of Outlook
Seems to me this trouble would
stop if I could tell WinXP that I'm
using Gmail & no other email program.
I went to http://windowsxp.mvps.org/MailtoProtocol.htm
which seems to describe my problem
exactly. but the fix didn't work for me.
I typed in control inetcpl.cpl & I got
this error message:
Windows cannot find 'control.inet.cpl'. Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click thh Start button,
and then click Search.
So I searched my entire computer for
'control.inet.cpl' & the file was not found.
Can anyone help?
