Hi,
I am posting the email which i received today to my company email id. Mine is a small size company or basically a 10 branch shop in India. We have 2-4 PCs in each branch and we are using Windows and MS office. this email states SAM from Microsoft. I was believe SAM is an IT best practices for Asset management and it has nothing to do with what license we are using or not. Based on a phone call from them seem like they are requiring us to purchase the license to these products. I would like to know if this is a genuine or Fake. They are threatening for legal actions and causing disturbance in my mindset and the business. The ID seems from legitimate microsoft domain. But the group "Bertelsmann Marketing Services" does not hold proper reputation based on my google search. Please help. Below is the body of the email.

Dear Mr Sandeep/Mr Anil,
Greetings from Microsoft!!
As per our discussion regarding Microsoft Software Legalization kindly find the below gap been identified across all the locations , Kindly, acknowledged the same so that further discussion could be carried out and close the compliance loop amicably, below is the estimated figure from Microsoft.
Please take the quotes from your preferred vendor or we can ask our business team to align a vendor. Would recommend your organization to work on this at priority towards closure.
We would strongly advocate that your organization should take immediate steps for regularization of shortfalls immediately and confirm us back.
We thank you for being an esteemed customer of MS and would request you to ensure immediate compliance to MS Intellectual Property Rights and MS License Policies.
Please share the required documents i.e. invoices which you have for existing paper licenses or OEM licenses if any after self-audit with us so that I can revise the bill of material if required.

Dear Mr Sandeep,
Cybersecurity threats cost the global economy an estimated market value of US$3 trillion, with 71% of companies admitting that they fell victim to successful cyberattacks. As cybersecurity threats continue to rise in India, we see the importance of having trusted software and systems continuing to be a top priority for business owners.
Companies need to ensure the following to prevent and respond effectively to cybersecurity threats:
Having strong IT asset (software & hardware) management to ensure proper usage, maintenance and updates and avoiding old and unprotected/non-genuine software which attracts a 60% cybersecurity risk.
Securing the company from within with the right usage behavior of IT systems, personal devices and interconnected devices (Internet of Things).
Invest in real-time monitoring systems with modern threat protection technologies.
Buy only from trusted suppliers and use genuine software.
Use a trusted public cloud which brings the benefit of enterprise-grade data security and privacy protection.
Microsoft would like to work with your organization to help you optimize your Software Assets and get the right advisory services suited to your needs. Having accurate and complete information on your software assets can also empower you to make strategic decisions to use updated technologies to safeguard and grow your business.
We have designed the process in a manner that allows us to provide more value to your organization through steps that will be relevant to your business and IT setup. The key steps and stages are as follows.

2. Please fill in the attached format above to capture the Microsoft layout in your Organization.
3. Please share details of OEM/FPP licenses purchased as well as any End User Licensing Agreement, details if any.
4. Details of Subscription of any Microsoft program that your Organization may have.
