I used to think that the shortcut key in a shortcut file only worked if that shortcut file was located on the desktop. I wanted to make a number of shortcuts usable through their shortcut keys, so I created a series of shortcuts. it made the desktop too messy, so I moved them into a single folder on the desktop - then I noticed I could invoke them with their shortcut keys, even though they were no longer on the desktop. Perfect, and neat.
But not for long - they are not working today.
So I created a new shortcut on the desktop, gave it a shortcut key, tested it, then moved it to the folder on the desktop. Funny thing, this shortcut's shortcut key still worked after moving it to the folder.
Then I created another shortcut in the folder on the desktop, set its shortcut key, and now it works as well. But not the shortcuts that stopped working. They still do not work.
So, I can create shortcuts on the desktop and invoke them with their shortcut keys. But if I move them to a folder on the desktop they seem to work for a while, but then stop working.
Can anyone explain this behaviour? It would be very useful (though perhaps only for me) if shortcuts anywhere on the desktop could be invoked with their shortcut keys. This happens, but not consistently.
