Hi everyone, this is not a question because I know the answer. This answer Microsoft is failing us.
I've been having issues with incorrect folder sizes reported by Windows 10 when clicking on folder properties, for quite some time.
I have a Drive which is 2TB in size, but Windows show a sub-folder of this drive being 3.45TB
Every time there is a new update I perform it ASAP hoping that it will fix my issue, which is not the case. The very last update Ver 1809 Build 17763.134 from 4th of December 2018 has the same major major bug, although this has been reported as a bug long time ago. This is totally, totally, totally UNACCEPTABLE from Microsoft. And they still want us pay for their OS, for this OS? It's incredible. I try not to use trivial words.
I've done a little bit of research on the the issue, and it seems that this is related to longer than 256 characters path names. I downloaded a small utility TLPD (Too Long Pathnames Detector) that scans a drive and locates all paths longer than a certain number of characters. BTW the "Too long path name issue" is another famous bug that apparently continues to reside in Windows from very long ago (I remember that when I was working as a Server SysAdmin and had issues deleting certain folders on our File Servers because they contained longer than 256 ch. path names.
After shortening all paths in my J: drive that were longer than 256 characters, Windows started again to report properly the folder sizes.
What proves this? It proves that Microsoft is far from being what it was, it seems as if they are using summer students to develop their OS and apps, and they simply don't care about the huge Windows user population, but they want us to pay big bucks on their OS, because we don't really have many choices.
On top of that I am fed up with Microsoft's inexistant product support ( I'm talking about on-line support, because for phone support you have to pay a lot of money). Microsoft support is pathetic, a bunch of guys in India who know nothing about Windows and troubleshooting, they just follow some scripts, and they keep copying and pasting the same commands: DISM / Restorehealth and sfc /scannow.
Now sincerely, what is your opinion guys about all this? I am fed up
