Travis:
The patched tcpip.sys is not digitally signed.
Until this compatibility update there were easy ways to permanently
disabling signature checks.
That way your system could load the patched one without complaining.
The compatibility update disabled definitely all known workarounds and now
signature check is enabled.
After the update your patched tcpip.sys would not load because Vista banned
it for being not digitally signed.
You should also have had problems with your network (a red cross on the
network icon)
Restoring the original tcpip.sys returns networking to its normal state but
you have again the max connections/sec problem (event ID 4226 logs in event
viewer).
So, back to square one!
